Byrne, Feist join ‘Red Hot’ AIDS compilation

David Byrne will join indie rockers including Feist, Sufjan Stevens and the Decemberists on the new “Red Hot” charity album for AIDS research.
The former Talking Heads frontman will collaborate on two tracks with the Dirty Projectors, a combo headed by prolific singer/songwriter Dave Longstreth.
“I’d been told more than once that we should all work together, and it seems the suggestion was fated to be realized,” Byrne wrote on his blog (http://journal.davidbyrne.com), adding that he revived lyrics he wrote in “maybe ‘75 or ‘76” for the project.
The “Red Hot” organization has released more than a dozen compilations since 1990 to benefit AIDS research and causes, with Byrne appearing on several over the years.
The as-yet-untitled new album will either be out in the fall or in early 2009, depending on when some of the tracks are completed, said Aaron Dessner, who is producing with his brother Bryce. The pair’s band, the National, will have a track on the compilation.
Grammy-nominated Canadian singer Feist joined forces for the project with Ben Gibbard, lead singer of current U.S. album chart champs Death Cab For Cutie. Other artists confirmed include TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, who produced actress Scarlett Johansson’s new album.
