Proper Use of This Medicine

Dosing - The amount of fat emulsions to be used will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label . The following information includes only the average dose of fat emulsions. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of fat emulsions that is infused into your vein depends on the strength of the fat emulsions used.

  • For injection dosage form:
    • For nutritional supplement:
      • Adults and teenagers - At first, the dose is 0.5 to 1 milliliter (mL) per minute injected slowly into a vein over a period of fifteen to thirty minutes. Your doctor may increase the rate of the injection until up to 250 to 500 mL have been injected over four to six hours.
      • Children - At first, the dose is 0.1 mL per minute injected slowly into a vein over a period of fifteen minutes. Your doctor may increase the rate of the injection up to 50 to 100 mL per hour.

Storage - To store this medicine:

  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • Store away from heat and direct light.
  • Do not store in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause the medicine to break down.
  • Keep the medicine from freezing. Do not refrigerate.
  • Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded medicine is out of the reach of children.
