Aphthasol (Amlexanox)

Aphthasol ® is an anti-inflammatory used to relieve the pain and redness caused by canker sores.

Aphthasol (Amlexanox) is a topical paste that is applied to an aphthous ulcer, also known as a canker sore. Amlexanox increases healing and decreases pain related to the ulcer.

This medicine should only be used in patients who have no problems with their immune system. Use this medication for the treatment of aphthous ulcers of the mouth only. Do not use for ulcers of the eye or any other area of the body. Generic amlexanox oral paste is not available.

Aphthasol Usage
Take Aphthasol - Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Begin using this medicine as soon as symptoms occur. Wash your hands immediately after using this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT use 2 doses at once.

Aphthasol Side Effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include stinging or burning of affected area, or short-term pain. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

What drug(s) may interact with amlexanox ?
There are no reports of medicines that interact with amlexanox.

Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

Before Use Aphthasol
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

Aphthasol Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Notes
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.

Where can I keep Aphthasol
Store amlexanox paste in the original tube at room temperature. Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children. Do not use paste and throw tube and contents away after expiration date.

What should I watch for while taking amlexanox?
Watch for new inflamed areas of the mouth or a rash. To prevent spreading the aphthous ulcers to new areas of the mouth, wash your hands after every application of paste. Discontinue use and contact your physician or dentist if inflammation of mouth or rash occur.

Watch for healing of ulcer and a decrease in pain. If these do not occur within 10 days of treatment, contact physician or dentist.
