What do the test results mean?

A mammogram can detect breast cancer, often before a lump can be felt. A mammogram may also show the following conditions:

  • calcifications, or mineral deposits
  • cysts, or fluid-filled masses
  • leaking breast implants
  • noncancerous tumors or growths
