Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis

What are the signs and symptoms of the disease?

Symptoms of poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis usually occur 1 to 3 weeks after the strep infection. They may include:

  • blood in the urine
  • skin swelling, usually around the eyes, which is often worse in the morning
  • a recent skin infection or sore throat
  • abdominal pain
  • fever
  • headache
  • malaise, or a general sick feeling
  • decreased urination
  • weight gain
  • high blood pressure
  • shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • pale skin
  • symptoms of kidney failure, which may include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, and changes in alertness or awareness
