What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

A pulmonary embolus may cause:

  • anxiety
  • chest pain
  • cough
  • fainting, or passing out
  • hemoptysis, or coughing up blood
  • mild fever
  • a rapid heartbeat
  • shortness of breath
