Aplastic anemia is not always preventable. Some cases may be prevented by limiting exposure to chemicals, such as pesticides. Effective treatment of viral diseases may lower the risk for anemia.
What are the long-term effects of the disease?Aplastic anemia is a life-threatening emergency. In many cases, it is fatal. If treatment is successful, the individual will have a lengthy recovery period while the body gets back to normal.
What are the risks to others?
Aplastic anemia is not contagious and poses no risk to others.
