What are the signs and symptoms of the disease?

Symptoms include:

  • decreased sense of taste
  • difficulty chewing on the affected side
  • drooling
  • dropping of the mouth at one corner
  • excess or decreased tearing
  • fear that a stroke has occurred
  • hypersensitivity to sound in the affected ear
  • inability to blink or close the eye on the affected side
  • pain in the face or ear
  • twitching of muscles on the affected side
