Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (Systemic)

Before Receiving This VaccineIn deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be
weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor
will make. For pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, the following should be considered:
Allergies - Tell your doctor if your child has ever had any unusual
or allergic reaction to pneumococcal vaccine, diphtheria toxoid, or latex.
Also tell your doctor and pharmacist if your child is allergic to any other
substances, such as preservatives.
Pregnancy - Studies on effects in pregnancy have not been done
in either humans or animals. This vaccine is not recommended for use in pregnant
women.
Breast-feeding - It is not known whether pneumococcal vaccine
passes into breast milk.
Children - This vaccine is generally well tolerated and effective
in infants. The safety and effectiveness in infants below 6 weeks of age has
not been established.
Older adults - This vaccine is not recommended for use in adult
populations.
Other medicines - Although certain medicines should not be used
together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together
even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to
change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your health care
professional if your child is receiving any other prescription or nonprescription
(over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.
