DescriptionRifampin (rif-AM-pin) is used to treat certain
bacterial infections.
Rifampin is used with other medicines to treat tuberculosis (TB). Rifampin
is also taken by itself by patients who may carry meningitis bacteria in their
nose and throat (without feeling sick) and may spread these bacteria to others.
This medicine may also be used for other problems as determined by your doctor.
However, rifampin will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.
To help clear up your tuberculosis (TB) completely, you must keep taking
this medicine for the full time of treatment, even if you begin to feel better.
This is very important. It is also important that you do not miss any doses.
Rifampin is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following
