Anagrelide (By Mouth)

Anagrelide (an-AG-re-lide)

Treats a blood disorder called thrombocythemia by lowering the number of platelets in your blood.

Agrylin
There may be other brand names for this medicine.

When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to anagrelide.

How to Use This Medicine:

Capsule

  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use and how often.
  • You may take the medicine with or without food.

If a dose is missed:

  • Use the missed dose as soon as possible, unless it is almost time for your next dose.
  • Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next regular dose.
  • You should not use two doses at the same time.
How to Store and Dispose of This Medicine:

  • Store the capsules at room temperature away from heat, moisture, or direct light.
  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:


Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.


Warnings While Using This Medicine:

  • Tell your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney disease.
  • You will need to have regular blood testing while using anagrelide to make sure the medicine is working and is not causing harmful side effects. Keep all appointments your doctor makes for you.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy before using this medicine. Anagrelide should not be used if you are pregnant, because it may be harmful to an unborn baby. Use an effective form of birth control while being treated with this medicine.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  • Swelling in your feet or ankles
  • Trouble breathing or shortness of breath
  • Chest pain

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

  • Headache
  • Feeling tired or dizzy
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, gas
If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor.
