Heart Murmur

What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

Heart murmurs often have no symptoms and usually are noticed only during a physical exam. Symptoms may include:

  • chest pain
  • rapid heartbeat, known as tachycardia
  • a pounding heartbeat, also known as palpitations
  • breathlessness, or shortness of breath
  • fatigue
  • dizziness
  • weakness
  • fever
  • cough
  • cyanosis, a paleness or bluish color in the skin
  • In severe cases, the heart murmur can be heard without a stethoscope.
