What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

Signs and symptoms of histiocytosis differ for adults and children.

In adults, the symptoms include:

  • cough
  • shortness of breath
  • chest pain
  • fever
  • weight loss
  • malaise, which is a general discomfort
  • In children, the symptoms include:

  • failure to thrive
  • weight loss
  • irritability
  • fever
  • a yellowish-pink scaling of the scalp
  • bone pain
  • bone fractures
  • rash
