Mitral Stenosis

Mitral Stenosis | Symptoms & Signs | Diagnosis & Tests | Prevention & Expectations | Treatment & Monitoring

How is the condition diagnosed?

The history and physical exam often cause a healthcare provider to suspect this condition. A heart murmur can often be heard with a stethoscope. A heart tracing, or ECG, and chest x-ray may show certain abnormalities. Special x-ray tests, such as a cardiac catheterization, can determine the severity of the condition and help guide treatment.
