Mitral Stenosis
What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?
Some individuals with mitral stenosis have no symptoms at all. However, this condition may cause:
fatigue, which is often the first symptom a person feels
shortness of breath
cough, which may rarely produce phlegm containing blood
chest pain
palpitations, or an abnormal awareness of the heartbeat
lung congestion with fluid, known as pulmonary edema
congestive heart failure, which usually occurs with severe forms of this condition or after many years of having it
irregular heartbeats, or arrhythmias
a heart murmur, or abnormal sound which may be heard by the healthcare provider with a stethoscope
