What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

This condition affects the infant within the first few days after birth and generally causes:

  • a bluish color to the skin, known as cyanosis
  • rapid breathing
  • low oxygen levels in the blood
  • heart murmurs, or abnormal heart sounds
