What are the signs and symptoms of the disease?

The symptoms of acute radiation sickness include:

  • vomiting
  • watery diarrhea
  • drowsiness that can lead to coma
  • loss of the immune system, which fights infections
  • extreme weakness
  • bleeding
  • hair loss
  • Death may follow quickly after massive exposure.

    The symptoms of chronic radiation sickness include:

  • hair loss
  • low levels of white and red blood cells
  • frequent infections
  • skin ulcers
  • fatigue
  • cataracts
