What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

Rectal prolapse may cause the following symptoms:

  • discomfort in the lower abdomen
  • bowel incontinence, or involuntary loss of stool
  • excessive straining during bowel movements
  • bleeding from the anus
  • a feeling of incomplete bowel movements
