Prostate Cancer Awareness Urged

Prostate cancer is the most common nonskin cancer in men and the second leading cause of death for males, yet studies show that nearly half of men over age 50 are not screened annually for the disease.
In observance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the Germantown office of UT Medical Group Inc. hosted a seminar on Sept. 29 to educate men about the importance of screening and promising new treatments for the disease.
Pomegranate juice promising for prostate cancer

Pomegranate extract may prevent prostate cancer or slow its growth, if results of lab experiments conducted at the University of Wisconsin in Madison translate to real-world benefits.
Dr. Hasan Mukhtar and his colleagues note in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Edition that pomegranates are high in polyphenolic compounds, making its juice higher in antioxidant activity than red wine and green tea.
Diet and exercise may slow prostate cancer

Sweeping changes in diet and exercise, as well as the use of stress management techniques, may slow the progression of early Prostate cancer, researchers report in the Journal of Urology.
“The progression of Prostate cancer may be beneficially affected by making comprehensive changes in diet and lifestyle,” said Lead investigator Dr. Dean Ornish.
Estrogen patch helpful in prostate cancer
