What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

Each of the following symptoms generally gets worse the longer the condition goes untreated:

  • constipation
  • swelling of the abdomen
  • nausea and vomiting
  • thin watery discharge from the rectum
  • abdominal distress or cramping
  • fever
