What are the signs and symptoms of the disease?

Some symptoms, such as high blood pressure, may be constant in a person with a pheochromocytoma. Other symptoms may be noticeable only during the attacks. Symptoms may include:

  • high blood pressure
  • severe headaches
  • palpitations, or an unusual awareness of the heartbeat, which may be abnormally fast or strong
  • excessive sweating
  • cold and clammy skin
  • abdominal distress
  • nausea and vomiting
  • blurry vision
  • trouble breathing, or shortness of breath
  • chest pain
  • severe anxiety, which may include a feeling that the world is coming to an end
  • weight loss
