Diagnosis of vertigo begins with a history and physical exam. Further tests may be needed. For example, a cranial CT scan or cranial MRI may be ordered if a stroke or brain tumor is suspected. A brain stem auditory evoked response test (BAER) may be used to check for a tumor.
